"A Pattern of Islands" by Arthur Grimble.
It's this bloke who was a cadet bod for the British Empire, went over to Gilbert + Ellice Islands in the Pacific. Lots of interesting stuff about him trying to cope with customs and language and different ideas of ettiquette.
