How do you decide which threads go then? There have been threads which I have been told about and want to read, then when I look they aren't there. It makes me confused.

We delete dead threads or threads that have no interest to them anymore. Most threads stay. Have you tried looking on the other pages? A lot of the time a thread will start out being about one thing and then evolve into something completely different, so if you're looking for a thread about mobile phones, don't be suprised if it's under the heading "Ladybirds."
