This is scary. Since the Michael Jackson programme, the sales of Thriller have gone up 500% and the sales of HIStory (greatest hits) has gone up 1000%. No publicity is bad publicity, hey.

I'm not surprised... Just hearing a song on an advert can remind you how much you like an artist, and encourage you to but the album. Think how many artists gain fame when their songs are used on TV.
That programme was *packed* with snippets of Jackson/Jackson 5... People were reminded, so bought the album. If the sales weren't particularly high before then, it wouldn't take much to boost them by such a huge percent.
