For very little good reason, I would like you all to trawl libraries and the internet, and come up with as many poems or song lyrics about people called Charlotte.

Charlotte Sometimes
All the faces All the voices blur Change to one face Change to one voice Prepare yourself for bed The light seems bright And glares on white walls All the sounds of Charlotte sometimes Into the night with Charlotte sometimes
Night after night she lay alone in bed Her eyes so open to the dark The streets all looked so strange They seemed so far away But Charlotte did not cry
The people seemed so close Playing expressionless games The people seemed So close So many Other names...
Sometimes I'm dreaming Where all the other people dance Sometimes I'm dreaming Charlotte sometimes Sometimes I'm dreaming Expressionless the trance Sometimes I'm dreaming So many different names Sometimes I'm dreaming The sounds all stay the same Sometimes I'm dreaming She hopes to open shadowed eyes On a different world Come to me Scared princess Charlotte sometimes
On that bleak track (See the sun is gone again) The tears were pouring down her face She was crying and crying for a girl Who died so many years before...
Sometimes I dream Where all the other people dance Sometimes I dream Charlotte sometimes Sometimes I dream The sounds all stay the same Sometimes I'm dreaming There are so many different names Sometimes I dream Sometimes I dream...
Charlotte sometimes crying for herself Charlotte sometimes dreams a wall around herself But it's always with love With so much love it looks like Everything else Of Charlotte sometimes So far away Glass sealed and pretty Charlotte sometimes

Charlotte, Her Book
I am Charlotte. I don't say hello to people and sometimes I bite. Although I am dead I still jump out of bed and wake them up at night.
This is my mother. Her hair is blue and I have drawn her with no eyes and arms like twigs. I don't do what I'm told and I tell lies.
This is my father. He has a mouth under his left ear. I'm fed up with drawing people, so I scribble smoke and cover his head right up.
I am a brat kid, fostered out because my mother is sick in the head, and I would eat her if I could, and make her good and dead.
Although I am only four I went away so soon they hardly knew me, and stars sprang out of my eyes, and cold winds blew me.
My mother always says she loves me. My father says he loves me too. I love Charlotte. A car ran over Charlotte. This is her book.

Tha Ballad of Charlotte Dymond by Charles Causley seems an obvious one, only I can't find it anywhere.

Dear Charlotte
Memory conveys that you were something to be When you weren't held captive in an aged body You had a family that needed you and job security You had everything a man could ever need But where did your children go? Where is your family? Did they turn into the adults that you always hoped they'd be? Did you finally retire from that job that tortured you? I thought all your dreams had come true So why are you depressed when your life is at it's best Is it really cause it's not what it seems? Or are you unable to see that you should be happy 'Cause your still living in yesterday's dreams
Your eldest son reminds you of the way life used to be When you didn't bear the chains of matrimony You had no job that you hated, no responsibility You were youthful and careless and free And the woman you wed, she seemed better in bed When there wasn't a ring on her finger Yes your life seemed all right when you partied all night Those days are gone, does the flavor still linger? Don't tell me life would be great if you were reprobate And had friends who were losers and fiends You've a family a wife and a meaningful life But you're still holding on to yesterdays dreams
Loneliness reduces you to disharmony Your life seems so hopeless and melancholy You're still young but you can't find the strength to move on Now that the woman who loves you is gone Did you find she wasn't so close when you needed her most Is it hard facing up to rejection? You might understand that she needed a man But you're still seeking maternal protection Don't give up you're still young and your life's just begun At every corner opportunity screams Sometimes life is abrupt but it's time to grow up And stop clinging to yesterday's dreams

Charlotte
She's got a rose in her smile She says she knows and she does
And her mind aches And her heart breaks 'Cause she's silly (?)
Gonna teach her to sin 'Cause I'm always knowing where she's been Livin' on the wrong side of the tracks And you know she's never Coming back
She's got a smile like a flower She looks so fine by the hour
But her mind aches And her heart breaks 'Cause she's silly (?)
Gonna teach her to steal 'Cause I'm always knowing how she feels Livin' on the wrong side of the tracks And I know she's never Coming back
Oh no...
And her mind aches... And her heart breaks... 'Cause she's silly...
To me (2x)

Charlotte The Harlot
Giving a swish with your arse in the air, don't you know what they're saying? Charlotte you're so refined when you take all the love that they're giving. Sticking with every man that you find, don't you know what they're after? Charlotte you've got your legs in the air, don't you hear all the laughter?
*Chorus*: Charlotte the Harlot show me your legs, Charlotte the Harlot take me to bed. Charlotte the Harlot let me see blood, Charlotte the Harlot let me see love.
Taking so many men to your room, don't you feel no remorse? You charge them a "fiver", It's only for starters. And ten for the main course. And you've got no feelings, they died long ago. Don't you care who you let in? And don't you know you're breaking the law with the service you're giving.
*Chorus*
There was a time when you left me standing there, Picking up pieces of love off the floor. Well Charlotte you left me alone in there, To make your ends as a bloody whore. Well Charlotte you told me you love me true, Picking up pieces of love yesterday. Well Charlotte you're draws are off color too 'Cause you're making love all day.
Giving a swish with your arse in the air, don't you know what they're saying? Charlotte you're so refined when you take all the love that they're giving. Sticking with every man that you find, don't you know what they're after? Charlotte you've got your legs in the air, don't you hear all the laughter?
*Chorus*

22 Acacia Avenue (the Continuing Saga Of Charlotte)
If you're feeling down depressed and lonely I know a place where we can go 22 Acacia Avenue meet a lady that I know So if you're looking for a good time And you're prepared to pay the price Fifteen quid is all she asks for Everybody's got their vice
If you're waiting for a long time for the rest to do their piece You can tell her that you know me and you might even get it free So any time you're down the East End don't you hesitate to go You can take my honest word for it she'll teach you more than you can know
Charlotte can't you get out from all this madness Can't you see it only brings you sadness When you entertain your men don't know the risk of getting disease
Some day when you're reaching the age of forty I bet you'll regret the days when you were laying Nobody then will want to know You won't have any beautiful wares to show any more
22, the avenue that's the place where we all go You will find it's warm inside the red light's burning bright tonight
Charlotte isn't it time you stopped this mad life Don't you ever think about the bad times Why do you have to live this way Do you enjoy your lay or is it the pay
Sometimes when your strolling down the avenue The way you walk it make men think of having you When you're walking down the street Everybody stops and turns to stare at you
Beat her mistreat her do anything that you please Bite her excite her make her get down on her knees Abuse her misuse her she can take all that you've got Caress her molest her she always does what you want
You're running away don't you know what you're doing Can't you see it'll lead you to ruin Charlotte you've taken your life and you've thrown it away You believe that because what you're earning Your life's good don't you know that you're hurting All the people that love you don't cast them aside All the men that are constantly drooling It's no life for you stop all that screwing You're packing your bags and you're coming with me

Frozen Charlotte
Blue like the winter snow in the full moon Black like the silhouettes of the trees Late blooming flowers lie frozen underneath the stars I want you to remember me that way
Far away... I'll be gone, will you wait for me here How long... I don't know, will you wait for me here
Still as the river grows in December Silent and perfect blinding ice Spring keeps her promises No cold can keep her back I want you to remember me that way
Far away... I'll be gone, will you wait for me here How long... I don't know, but wait for me here Follow... don't follow me To where To where I go
Far away... I'll be gone, will you wait for me here How long... I don't know, will you wait for me here Follow... don't follow me, to where I have gone Follow... don't follow me, to where I have gone Someday you'll take my place And I'll wait For you there
