...is a poet who wrote some little Cold War ditties in the style of nursery rhymes... see below...

I had a little shadow who went in and out with me,
And what could be the use of him was hard for me to see,
Till they took me from my Bureau looking out across Red Square,
And when I reached Siberia, my shadow wasn't there

Rock of ages cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in thee.
While the bombers thunder past,
Shelter me from burn and blast;
And though I know all men are brothers
Let the fallout fall on others.

What's wrong with you people? I found it clever but assumed it was meant in a shocking kind of way. Slamming it in quickly and bluntly from giving you a security predictable balnket, which would have been quite nasty anyway. Or I'm just wrong and too serious. Is it meant to be funny?

I didn't find it at all funny when I first read it, but at 11.30, and after a carton of high-sugar orange juice, I did indeed giggle.

there seemed to be a lot of good literature and poetry to come out of the cold war, has anyone 'read' when the wind blows by raymond briggs? ick! i dont mean 'read' in a patronising way!! it is just that the book is a comic strip kind of and you dont really read it so much as look at it!! *damn my choice of english*  |
