alot of male types nowerdays seem to be so violent, agressive and unthinking. alot of female types seem to be so bitchy and slutty and unkind. what is everything coming to!? people are obsessed with celebritys and soaps and other peoples lives yet failing to realise how utterly rubbish their own is. it is like people are devolving or something i'm not sure if this has always been around just in lesser forms? but if everything carrys on the way it is going the whole place will be over taken by media, violence and stupidness. look at the case of those two girls getting murdered. the stupid amount of media attention they got and the massive angry crowds gathering as the people they were -questioning- (not under arrest) went past in a police riot van to keep them from being attacked! people are so willing to believe the media, it makes me sick! grrr. i am happy! just felt rantish

True, though this has always been the case, nowadays we think we're so "modern" and "liberated," but gender stereotypes are still in place, and re-inforced so strongly by the media. People act the way they think they ought to, to do what's expected of them. That's why they fear people who *don't* do the same, and this fear manifests itself as aggression. I mean, Dan, you've had loads of stuff shouted at you for looking "different," I think most people on this board have, and it's often for the most inoffensive (in our eyes) things, like wearing nail varnish, or a dog collar, or having coloured hair. Yesterday I got shouted at wearing nothing more threatening than a T-Shirt with "The Cure" written on it.
People use the media as a way of telling them how their lives should be, to give them something to focus on outside of their own shitty existence. If your life is in tatters, most people will choose escapism rather than trying to fix it.
As for paedophilia, don't get me started! We have angry mobs waving copies of the Sun shouting "burn the perverts" and "bring back hanging," yet these same people are consuming the mindless pap peddled by Pop Record Labels, featuring hyper-sexualised 12-year-olds. S Club Juniors, it's sick. They're 11 and 12 singing about falling in love and "getting with" people, and "this time it's forever."

I have to say, I felt sick when I saw the pictures of the crowds gathering when that woman was taken for questioning. I know it was a horrific crime, but now, if she did have no involvement, more lives have been ruined.
I read that the parents of the man who was accused have been harassed in their hometown. I think they've had to leave their jobs as well. I hate that. I guess the people doing it think they're getting justice for the girls, or something, but they're just making things so much worse.

I agree with you all.
what she did even if it was only lying to the police or1 worse, may be wrong, but those idiots are just showing themselves as savage animals. it was people like that that harmed a peadotritian (however you spell it) because they thought that meant peadophile. you can't get much worse than that. it seems people almost like having other people to riot about as if it makes their miserable selves feel better.

I read a cartoon once... It was this bloke saying "Paedophiles! They make me sick, hanging's too good for them! Why don't I go round there and abuse HIS kids and see how HE likes it!" Or something similar... but written in a slightly more amusing way...
