I have found a poem that sums up my philosophy on life pretty well:
Philip Larkin - This Be The Verse
They fuck you up, your mum and dad. They may not mean to, but they do. They fill you with the faults they had And add some extra, just for you.
But they were fucked up in their turn By fools in old-style hats and coats, Who half the time were soppy-stern And half at one another's throats.
Man hands on misery to man. It deepens like a coastal shelf. Get out as early as you can, And don't have any kids yourself.

When I saw 'Phillip Larkin' in the thread title, I was going to look this up and post it. I'd only heard the first verse before, though.
Then I saw that was what it was.
Most of my favourite songs/poems/books have lyrics that can sum up bits of my views, that's why I like them.

go ahead you can laugh all you want but I got my philosophy and I trust it like the ground that's why my philosophy it keeps me walking when I'm falling down

I love Larkin. I think he got it right. We were talking about him in my English lesson and everyone was going "He was obviously a bit mad. He never wanted children and he never got married." So, by default that makes me mad! Yeah- LArkin. He's great. The verse for Sticks&Stones&Bones&Lies is based on a Larkin poem.

Larkin's poetry is great. He was a little strange.

He had all his books burned after his death. Funny thing though. You know he's in trouble for that semi pornagraphic kids story, well Michelle O' Brion in my class said he should be locked away for it. He's dead!! ;D

Oops. I sound happy that he's dead. Sorry about that. Not intended.

Yeah, he used to write highly detailed diaries every day, and had them all burned... Makes me wonder what was in them.
I never heard that, is it a well-known one?

I never heard that, is it a well-known one? He wrote 3 books, 2 of them set in a fictional girls boarding school, one featuring the heroine after leaving school. It was just a bit on the sapphic side, but then again early 20th century boarding schools always were a haven for repression, homosexuality and generally fucking people up in the head.

Footnote to Larkin: 'To blame it on your mom and dad, and claim its their fault what you do, takes quite a nerve, as if you had no part to play in what makes you. this fucked up childhood myths a line that we've all at sometime used it may explain why you're a swine but not why you should be excused'
Maybe I'll be boring and put some poems of mine up...I only got about 351... Why is it some crackers outta the selection tin I got are more sweet then digestives? Lucy Fer D (* Abolishing Townies, Making the world a safer and better place*) ~xXx~
